Gqeberha, April 29, 2025 – In a crucial clash of the Women’s ODI Tri-Series 2025, India Women put up a commanding performance against South Africa Women, posting a target of 277 runs and gaining early momentum with a breakthrough by pacer Arundhati Reddy, who removed debutant Lebo Meso in the opening overs.
India Posts 276/7: Mandhana & Harmanpreet Lead the Charge
After being put into bat, India recovered from an early wobble to finish strongly at 276/7 in their 50 overs. Opener Smriti Mandhana anchored the innings with a classy 89 off 107 balls, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur provided the middle-overs thrust with a fluent 53 off 45.
Youngster Richa Ghosh chipped in with a handy 28, and lower-order contributions from Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar helped India cross the 270 mark on a good batting surface at St George’s Park.
South Africa’s Response: Meso Falls Early
South Africa’s chase got off to a shaky start as Arundhati Reddy trapped debutant Meso LBW for just 3 runs. The delivery pitched just outside off and jagged back sharply, catching the young batter in front of the stumps. The umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger, handing India an early breakthrough.
By the end of the 10th over, South Africa were 48/1, with Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch looking to stabilize the innings. With a rising required rate, India will be banking on their spinners to control the middle overs.
